Danny Knapp Joins in at the Whisky a Go Go for a Birthday Celebration

The Whisky a Go Go has seen a lot of legendary nights. February 21st was one more.

Southern California-based bass guitarist Danny Knapp was invited to perform at an intimate birthday celebration for singer/dancer Erin Stricklen-Wilson, held at one of rock and roll’s most storied venues on the Sunset Strip. The Whisky a Go Go has served as a launching pad and landmark for some of the biggest names in rock history, and Knapp approached the occasion with the reverence it deserved.

“That stage has hosted some of the most legendary names in rock history — and I do my best to honor that every time I play there,” said Knapp.

What made the night even more memorable was the company. Knapp joined a who’s-who of fellow L.A. musicians who also happen to be close personal friends — a combination that, by his own account, brought something special to the room.

“When the people on stage with you are also the people you’d hang out with anyway, something magic happens,” he said. “The evening had plenty of that.”

Knapp, who performs under the name The Melonhead and is an endorsed artist with Sandberg Guitars, S.I.T. Strings, Schroeder Cabinets, and Pig Hog Cables, continues to build his reputation as a sought-after bassist for both live performance and private events throughout Southern California and beyond. Private events and special engagements are available upon inquiry.

Glam Metal Night at The Last Call Jam

Danny has been unable to attend the Last Call Jam in Tarzana, CA for several months due to his heavy gigging schedule. However, he recently attended and performed at the jam for ‘Glam Metal Night’, and it was indeed glamorous. Danny enjoyed the reunion with so many talented and kind friends and peers, and he stated, “The vibe there is always so supportive and fun, and the performances were off the chain! I’m always comfortable in a room full of weirdos.”.

ThrowbackThursday BTS – Soundcheck at the Troub with Katie Garfield five years back (the place looks a little different when the lights are on during the daytime). As it turned out, this ended up being our last gig together, but we had some great experiences as a band-fam. We all still keep in touch from time to time via social media. Everyone is still active in the music industry and doing some really cool stuff. Check ’em out.

It’s crazy to think of how many stories and fond memories you can recall just from the stickers, dents, and scratches you find on your travel cases.

If only these bass guitar cases could talk! I originally just started with my name and a few stickers on each case so that I could recognize my gear when it’s dark backstage and at the airport, and so that crew and other musicians don’t accidentally pack the wrong gear in their trucks (no one can mistake my ugly cases).
Over time, the stickers get ripped off due to use and abuse, so I just add more stickers over the top of the old ones. Besides, it gives me somewhere to put all those cool decals you get when traveling and when you buy new gear.

I’m looking forward to later this year when we can all get back out there and do some road gigs and fly-in gigs so I can collect some more stickers. 😉
