Here’s a closeup of some of the custom work on my “Sakura” bass. I originally picked up this bass as a backup, but it’s become my main bass for most gigs and recordings. It’s an 2008-2010 @ernieballmusicman Stingray 5 HH with an @alperiouspickguard. I keep this one strung with @ernieball roundwounds and the tone is just fantastic.
I get asked quite often about my customized bass guitars. Several of basses have custom pickguards made by Alper Eskimez of @alperiouspickguard. His work is absolutely amazing. These pickguards are made out of wood and metal, so they actually improve tone and sustain a little bit. Every pickguard Alper makes is built-to-order and one-of-a-kind. In the photo on the left, you can see the detail of the wood grain in the pickguard on one of my @ernieballmusicman basses (this one is named “Elvis”).
Thanks to @red_hareimages for a great video clip of my main fretted 5-string bass, “Sakura” that he shot during the last @werenogentlemen recording session. This video shows off the artwork on the custom @alperiouspickguard that Alper designed for my bass. π€π
So sorry to hear of the passing of Tim Bogert. He was a huge influence for me and so many other bass players. He was so versatile, and knew when to hold the groove and when to get crazy. Tim helped to define modern bass technique and style. Hopefully, he and EVH are jammin’ again. RIP π€π
Believe it or not, this is me 100% sober π€π€ͺ I’m not sure if I was just in a very celebratory mood or just doing a Hellboy impression, but either way, Merry New Year!
Here’s a quick demo of the bass synth preset I created for performing the Missing Persons song “Words” using the @SourceAudio C4 Synth pedal. You can download my preset from the Source Audio Neuro Community website at https://neuro.sourceaudio.net/preset/uzJQubXHpm
— check it out and let me know what you think.
Notice what’s missing on this bass?

This bass doesn’t have magnetic pickups. It’s a Lightwave-powered bass from @willcoxguitars. It uses an optical pickup system built into the bridge saddles. This bass provides analog and digital output so I can use it as a bass guitar and a MIDI controller at the same time. The analog bass tone is fantastic, and it enables me to just bring one bass to a gig or recording session, even when I need to play synth bass lines.
I am thrilled to be featured in the current issue of Voyage LA Magazine! Check out my interview as well as the whole issue to learn more about inspiring artists and entrepreneurs in SoCal.

It was great to spend some quiet time over the holiday unwinding. Now I’m getting tuned up and ready for several upcoming recording sessions and even a few live outdoor shows in the coming weeks.
